“They are either swept up by trends and aesthetics that change every second, or turned off by the idea of fashion and feel safer in plain, unassuming clothing.”

Gosh, this is so real. Halfway through this piece but I’m setting it aside to give it a closer read this afternoon.

This is really interesting. I dress in athleisure basically every day, except the rare occasions I work in the office, or Sundays for church, or going out to eat. In the last 5-7 years it’s not that I stopped caring, but it became exhausting for me to try to maintain my wardrobe and all the things. And I like to be comfortable. But this has given me a different perspective to consider. I still find it extremely hard to find clothing pieces I like and feel comfortable in, and fast fashion is everywhere!!

I relate to this! This was me a few years ago, I wore sweats and leggings every day. I would get dressed and do my hair and makeup but never made an effort for anything but comfort at home. I’ve found, stunningly, since I started wearing skirts and dresses that they’re actually significantly *more* comfortable than athleisure, but I feel much nicer in them and far more comfortable with my appearance as well. Plus I don’t need to think at all about putting an outfit together lol, it’s literally one garment.

It can be exhausting, friend! I always struggle with wanting to be comfy and choosing to dress with more effort. Style analysis really helped me find pieces that were comfortable and elephant, precisely because they fit me well.

Love this beautiful perspective! How encouraging ❤️ Ive teetered between careless frump to overthinking my appearance😅 I seem to go frm one extreme to another alot in life 😝 Last few yrs Ive made more of my own clothes because I dont like the fast fashion trends n they dont fit my body! I wasnt built for jeans either 😅 A handmade garment, though alot of work- will last!

Thanks friend! I love the idea of sewing your own clothes. You’re right—they’re higher quality, and it’s much easier to tailor make clothes to your body instead of working with what you can find at the store.

I love this!! I’d love to start sewing again for this reason.

I appreciate this perspective! Adding beauty to the world is such an inherently feminine quality, but an over emphasis on a certain type of modesty or false humility coupled with the worlds extreme emphasis on image means that a lot of Christian women have some weird baggage when it comes to beauty. I probably dress frumpy by some standards at times, but I do a lot of hard outdoor work and I need it to be practical. But I love looking nice when my husband walks in the door and fixing myself up at least a little bit each day.

That’s such a good point, friend! I think it definitely takes a little more work to make our wardrobes both practical and pretty, but I love how you do an outfit change based on the time of day/what you’re doing.

This is really beautifully put! I wear overalls a lot to get chores done, but I actually have a few older but pretty blouses I’ll wear underneath. I don’t think my husband cares as long as I’m keeping our animals alive 😂😂 But I like feeling both pretty and functional at the same time.
