My 10 favorite books on worldview and femininity in a post-truth world
BOOK CLUB IS BACK! Premium subscribers now have access to the free ebook library + revamping community for a new year
Hello, my dear friends!
I hope those of you also in the northern hemisphere are settling in well to these dark, slow days of winter and enjoying lots of hot tea, warm candles, and cozy reads.
My family and I have had a bit of a rough January so far with the double-whammy hit of a long spell of very cold weather and a household-wide flu.
I wanted to make sure you all knew that the premium subscriber resource library is now live and with it, my latest ebook Unburden Yourself, an exploration of cultivating feminine Christian virtue through habitual, rhythmic prayer and Bible meditation.
For this year’s book and Bible study club, rather than just support each other through our personal reading goals, I wanted to invite you all into this spiritual practice I’ve adapted in my life over the last few years as the foundation for a habit of reading and living through the lens of God’s ultimate truth.
This invitation is Unburden Yourself, which goes deeper than a simple reading plan or devotional to outline how we can daily conform our minds to God’s unshakable truth; to find daily rest and respite from our anxious thoughts and this chaotic world in the light and guidance of God’s comforting Word.
Last year, I wrote a lot for you all about books I was reading or listening to and parallels I saw in Scripture, a practice that I loved and that blessed me. On these posts, I’d invite readers to chime in on what they were reading and learning, and I do humbly believe it blessed all of us.
I’d love to resurrect this theme going forward, with a continued and elaborated upon theme of feasting daily on the nourishment of God’s word and slowing down in daily, habitual routine to be still and meditate on His goodness and truth.
So, the resource library also now includes a copy of my revamped book and Bible study club guide Bold Truth and Good Books which walks you through making bold biblical truth and great literature a regular part of your daily lives.
Unburden Yourself is a look at how we can incorporate prayer and meditating upon Scripture a habitual and refreshing part of our daily lives, so these two ebooks simply examine different sides of living a scripture-oriented lifestyle that is full of great literature.
I love books and highly encourage reading for pleasure and spiritual stimulation above all else rather than succumbing to pressure to try to complete a certain number of titles or read “important books.”
Here, we are all about living in a state of rest and peace and being nourished rather than overwhelmed by our desire to digest good books.
To be very honest with you all, over the last two years, I’ve read considerably fewer non-fiction books on the topics I’m passionate about and listened to far more entertaining fiction books…pretty much 95% of which were written by either P.G. Wodehouse or Agatha Christie as many of you will likely know by now.
Let me tell you, this is not a guilty pleasure, but a very fulfilling one.
These two authors craft wildly compelling fiction with so much literary rigor and brilliant commentary into human nature it renders each both escapist and enjoyable, stimulating, and insightful to me as a writer, a human being, and a person of Christian faith.
So, there’s my resounding cry to read what you love and to share what you love with all of us by joining our little community of readers.
Now, I still consider non-fiction to be extraordinarily important and something that has its very necessary time and place.
Next week, I’ll share my favorite fiction books for premium subscribers, but today I wanted to invite those who haven't already to add the following books to your TBR list this year:
