Men have mental loads, too
As women loudly name "invisible labor," men are quietly toiling at theirs
This week, I noticed my Instagram feed was suddenly awash with a similar message:
“The mom is the most tired person in the family.” (Directly pitting mom against dad and claiming he’s not as tired.)
“When men have children, they just have to work. When women have children, they have to work and think about everyone else.” (With a call for “equality” in the home.)
“Women bear the mental load silently. This is called ‘invisible labor.’” (Women actually talk about this all the time; it’s not silent.)
As a homemaker who has almost always worked at home, homeschooled, and done some form of homesteading, I fully understand the sensation of all our tasks crushing down on us.
I can physically feel the weight of this mental load.
It is real, and I’m not trying to discount it.
But is it heavier than a man’s?
That’s…debatable.
